The letters of our alphabet have charmed humans into transforming them for thousands of years. We decorated them, told stories inside them, compressed, rounded, elongated, thickened, swirled and looped them. And most recently we abstracted them into illegible contemporary art. It is that history that inspired me to paint them. I felt driven to know how ancient marks became contemporary letterforms, and what I learned compelled me to create a venue of discovery for others.
